Je lui ai donné une poupée,
une poupée de cire aux joues roses.
Ses bras sont attachés par de petites chevilles,
et ses jambes elle-mêmes se plient.

Elle a soin de sa vertu et ne la laisse pas sortir sans elle;
pas au soleil, surtout, car la petite poupée
fondrait en gouttes de cire.

Ich habe ihr eine Puppe geschenkt,
eine Wachspuppe mit rosa Wangen.
Die Arme sind mit kleinen Stiften angebracht,
und ihre Beine biegen sich von selbst.

Auf ihre Tugend achtet sie und lässt sie nicht allein hinaus;
vor allem in die Sonne nicht, denn dann schmölze 
das Püppchen zu Tropfen wohl aus Wachs.
