Note provided by Laura Prichard: Donizetti’s autograph manuscript is titled Romanza (Morgan Library, New York). A slightly altered version of the song was first published in Il Sibilo (Naples, April 4, 1844), headed Romanza "from the album of Countess Angela Carradori" and labeled "Property of the publisher Giuseppe Fabricatore."
