Auf der Haide
(Sung text for setting by S. Hausegger)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie im dunklen Bussgewand
schlummert rings das Haideland
Nachtgewölk am Himmel zieht,
Wind durch Dorn und Distel flieht.

Horch, ein Seufzen! dünkt mir's nicht,
dass der Nachtwind heimlich spricht
von uraltem Leide?
Sag, was träumt die Haide?

Sieh', da quillt der Mond hervor
freundlich aus dem Wolkenflor.
Hörst du? ferner Glockenklang
leiser ferner Weihnachtssang!

Klärt im Traum sich ihr Gesicht
jetzt zu einem Lächeln nicht
ahnungsstiller Freude?
Sag', was träumt die Haide?

Composition:

Set to music by Siegmund von Hausegger (1872 - 1948), "Auf der Haide", published 1899 [ medium voice and piano ], from Lieder und Gesänge für 1 Singstimme mit Pianoforte, no. 27, Berlin, Ries & Erler confirmed with a CD booklet
