Du hast mit deinem Rauschen Mir ganz berauscht den Sinn. Was sag ich denn vom Rauschen? Das kann kein Rauschen sein: Es singen wohl die Nixen Dort unten ihren Reihn. Sentivo mormorare un ruscello, là dalla sorgente nella roccia, fino laggiù a valle lo sentivo mormorare, così fresco e limpido. Non so come mi venne in mente, né chi me lo suggerì, fui spinto a scendere a valle anch'io, col mio bastone da viandante. Giù, e sempre avanti, e sempre appresso al ruscello, che mormorava sempre più fresco e sempre più limpido, il ruscello. E' questa la mia strada? Parla, ruscello, dove va? Col tuo mormorio mi hai confuso la mente. Ma che dico, mormorio? Non è un mormorio, è il canto delle ondine che danzano laggiù. Lascia cantare, amico, lascia mormorare, e vai avanti lieto! Girano le ruote dei mulini in ogni limpido ruscello!
