Madeleine
 (Sung text for setting by N. Reber)
 See original
Language: French (Français)
Écoute-moi, Madeleine !
L'hiver a quitté la plaine
Qu'hier il glaçait encor.
Viens dans ces bois d'où ma suite
Se retire, au loin conduite
Par les sons errants du cor.

Viens ! on dirait, Madeleine,
Que le printemps, dont l'haleine
Donne aux roses leurs couleurs,
A, cette nuit, pour te plaire,
Secoué sur la bruyère
Sa robe pleine de fleurs.

 ...

Si tu voulais, Madeleine,
Au lieu de la marjolaine
Qui pare ton chaperon,
Tu porterais la couronne
De comtesse ou de baronne,
Dont la perle est le fleuron !

Si tu voulais, Madeleine,
Je te ferais châtelaine ;
Je suis le comte Roger ;
Quitte pour moi ces chaumières,
A moins que tu ne préfères
Que je me fasse berger !
