    Schlafe! 
  Himmelskindlein, schlafe! 

Maria hat mit Mutterlieb' 
  Dich leise zugedeckt;
Und Joseph hält den Hauch zurück, 
  Daß er dich nicht erweckt.
Die Schäflein, die im Stalle sind,
Verstummen vor dir Himmelskind.
     Schlafe! 
  Himmelssöhnchen, schlafe!
