Wenn sich zwei Herzen scheiden,
Die sich dereinst geliebt,
Das ist ein großes Leiden,
Wie's größ'res nimmer gibt.
Es klingt das Wort so traurig gar:
Fahr' wohl, fahr' wohl auf immerdar!
Wenn sich zwei Herzen scheiden,
Die sich dereinst geliebt.

Da ich zuerst empfunden,
Daß Liebe brechen mag:
Mir war's, als sei verschwunden
Die Sonn' am hellen Tag.
Mir klang's im Ohre wunderbar:
Fahr' wohl, fahr' wohl auf immerdar!
Da ich zuerst empfunden,
Daß Liebe brechen mag.

Mein Frühling ging zur Rüste,
Ich weiß es wohl, warum;
Die Lippen, die ich küßte,
Sind worden kalt und stumm. 
Das eine Wort nur sprach sie klar:
Fahr' wohl, fahr' wohl auf immerdar!

La douleur est profonde
comme nulle autre au monde,
quand deux cœurs se désunissent
qui s'étaient aimés jadis.
Et quel malheur, ce dernier vœu :
"bonne route, bon vent - adieu, adieu "
quand - jadis unis par l'amour -
deux cœurs se quittent pour toujours. 

A l'instant où, sans détours, 
je compris que l'amour serait brisé un jour,
c'est comme si, en plein midi, 
le soleil faisait place à la nuit.
Dans mes oreilles résonnent encore
ces paroles d'un mauvais sort :
bonne route, bon vent, adieu à jamais --  
à l'instant où je compris sans détours
que l'amour serait brisé un jour.
 
Mon Printemps s'en est allé.
  Je le sais, je l'ai vu : 
ses lèvres, qui m'embrassaient,
sont froides et se sont tues.
Sauf une parole, que j'entendis clairement : 
"Bonne route, bon vent, adieu à tout jamais" !
 Il s'en est allé, mon Printemps, 
     Je le sais; hélas, je le sais !
