Nu tak for alt, ifra vi var små
og legte sammen i skog og lage'.
Jeg tænkte, legen den skulde gå
op i de grånende dage.

Jeg sad og vented så mangen kvæld
og så did bort under granehejen;
men skygge gjorde det mørke fjæld,
og du, du fant ikke vejen.
...
-- Men godt, så ved jeg dog, hvem det var,
som lagde gårdene mod hverandre
og vej for synet i skogen skar
og gav det lov til at vandre.

Jusqu'aux jours de la vieillesse.

Le soir souvent je m'asseyais et attendais
et là regardais au-loin la lisière des sapins ;
mais la sombre montagne étendait son ombre,
et toi, tu ne trouvais pas le chemin.

Mais bon, je savais pourtant bien qui
avait placé nos fermes l'une à côté de l'autre
et taillé pour les yeux un passage dans le bois
et leur a donné la permission de vagabonder.
