Naar Natten kaster sine Skygger
(Sung text for setting by P. Heise)
 Matches original text
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Naar Natten kaster sine Skygger
Ud over tause Sø og Kyst,
Da kommer Sorgen bid og bygger
Sit Natteleie i mit Bryst.

Som Vedbend tæt til Stammen klynges,
Saa den gaaer ud og er forød,
Saa Sorgen ved mit Blod forynges
Og lever frodigt af min Død.

Composition:

Set to music by Peter Arnold Heise (1830 - 1879), "Naar Natten kaster sine Skygger", published 1852 [ voice and piano ], from 4 Digte af Christian Winther og Oehlenschlæger, no. 2

Text Authorship:

  • by Christian Winther (1796 - 1876), no title, appears in Lyriske Digte, in Da jeg var ung, no. 38
