Totes Glück
(Sung text for setting by P. Caro)

Als unsre Liebe noch blühend war,
Haben wir unter den Zweigen gesessen,
Hand in Hand, und die Sonne lag
Wie eine Krone über dem Tag.

Welk ist die Liebe -- der Wintersturm
Pfeift mir ein trotziges Lied vom Vergessen.
Meine weinende Seele spricht:
Leiden will ich -- vergessen nicht!
