Translation by Georg Friedrich Daumer (1800 - 1875)

Meine Lebenszeit verstreicht
(Sung text for setting by E. Wolff)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Persian (Farsi)
Meine Lebenszeit verstreicht,
Stündlich eil' ich hin zum Grabe,
Und wie wenig ist's vielleicht,
Daß ich noch zu leben habe!

Drum, Geliebte, säume nicht,
Spende mir mit holdem Munde,
Ehe mir die Seel' entweicht,
Eine letzte süße Labe.
Note: Daumer mimics Gellert's Vom Tode in the first stanza.

Composition:

Set to music by Erich J. Wolff (1874 - 1913), "Meine Lebenszeit verstreicht", Lieder no. 38, published 1914
