Zum Hänschen sprach das Gretchen:
"Mein Lieben mich gereut.
Du scherzest mit allen Mädchen,
Wir sind geschied'ne Leut.
Geh' deines Wegs nur wieder!
Mein Kuss bleibt dir versagt,
Bis einst der span'sche Flieder
Im Garten Aepfel tragt!"

Das Fenster ward geschlossen,
Den Vorhang zog sie für,
Und Hänschen ging verdrossen
Von seiner Liebsten Thür.
Als Tags darauf er wieder
Den Weg zur Trauten fand,
Sass Gretchen auf dem Flieder,
Darauf sie Aepfel band.

« Mon cher, je regrette.
Tu badines avec toutes les filles,
Nous sommes séparés.

Va ton chemin désormais.
Mon baiser te reste refusé,
Jusqu'à ce qu'un jour le lilas espagnol
Dans le jardin porte des pommes. »

La fenêtre était fermée,
Le rideau était baissé,
Et Hans s'en allait de mauvaise humeur
De la porte de sa chérie.

Quand il reprit à nouveau
Le chemin vers sa chérie il vit
Sur le lilas Marguerite assise
Et y attachant des pommes.
