Vom Sterben
(Sung text for setting by H. von Herzogenberg)

Sterben ist ein' harte Buß,
Weiß wohl, daß ich sterben muß.
Und ein Röslein rosenrot
Pflanzt mein Schatz nach meinem Tod.

Wenn ich 'mal gestorben bin,
Wo begräbt man mich denn hin?
Schau nur in den Friedhof 'nein
Da wird noch ein Plätzchen sein!

Wachsen schöne Blümlein d'rauf,
Geben dir ein' schönen Strauß.
Ach, was hilft ein Röslein rot,
Wenn es blüht nach Liebes Tod!

 ...

Sterben ist ein' harte Pein,
Wenn's zwei Herzallerliebste sein,
Die des Todes Sichel scheid't,
Ach, das ist das größte Leid.
