Holder du af mig

Holder du af mig,
holder jeg af dig
alle mine levedage;
sommeren var kort,
græsset blegner bort,
kommer med vor leg tilbage.

Hvad du sa' ifjor,
husker jeg i år
sidder som en fugl i karmen,
kakker på og slår,
synger lidt og spår
lykke under solevarmen.

 ...

Nu godnat, godnat!
drømmen har mig fat,
den om dine milde øjne
og de tavse ord,
som af krogen fór,
o, de vare så forfløjne!

Si tu tiens à moi
(Sung text translation for setting by W. Peterson-Berger)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
Si tu tiens à moi,
Je tiendrai à toi
Pour tous les jours de ma vie.
L'été fut court,
L'herbe a jauni et disparu,
Elle reviendra avec nos jeux.

Ce que tu dis l'an passé
Je m'en souviens cette année,
C'est comme un oiseau au bord de la fenêtre
Qui frappe et pépie,
Chantonne et prédit
Le bonheur au chaud soleil.

 ...

Ô bonne nuit, bonne nuit !
Un rêve m'a étreinte,
Celui de tes doux yeux
Et des paroles silencieuses
Qui s'en échappent,
Ô, c'était si irréfléchi !

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,5 of the original text.
