Das Mädchen an den Mai
 (Sung text for setting by O. Schoeck)

Es ist doch im April fürwahr
Der Frühling weder halb noch gar;
Komm, Rosenbringer, süßer Mai,
Komm du herbei,
So weiß ich, was der Frühling sei!

- Wie aber? soll die erste Gartenpracht,
Narzissen, Primeln, Hyazinthen,
Die kaum die hellen Augen aufgemacht
Schon welken und verschwinden?
Und mit euch besonders, holde Veilchen,
Wär' es dann fürs ganze Jahr vorbei?
Lieber, lieber Mai,
Ach, so warte noch ein kleines Weilchen!
