Der junge Baum
(Sung text for setting by J. Hiller)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Das liebe kleine Bäumchen hier,
Das einst gepflanzet ward mit mir,
Trägt schon so jung und zart
Die Früchte von der besten Art.

Es lohnt des Gärtners froher Hand,
Den Fleiß, den er darauf verwandt:
Was wird, ihn zu erfreun,
Es nicht erst einst erwachsen sein!

O! bin ich nicht den Bäumchen gleich?
Zwar jetzt nur noch an Hoffnung reich:
Doch will ich nicht nur blühn,
Nein, einst von goldnen Früchten glühn.

Composition:

Set to music by Johann Adam Hiller (1728 - 1804), "Der junge Baum", published 1769 [ voice and piano or harpsichord ], from Lieder für Kinder, no. 2, Leipzig: Weidmanns Erben und Reich

Text Authorship:

  • by Christian Felix Weisse (1726 - 1804), "Der junge Baum", appears in Kleine lyrische Gedichte, in 2. Lieder für Kinder
