Als ich dich in meinem Leib trug,
war es um uns gar nicht gut bestellt
und ich sagte oft: der, den ich trage,
kommt in eine schlechte Welt,

Und ich nahm mir vor zu sorgen,
daß er sich da etwa auch nicht irrt.
Den ich trage, der muß sorgen helfen,
daß sie endlich besser wird.

Und ich sah da Kohlenberge mit 'nem Zaun drum.
Sagt ich: nicht gehärmt! Den ich trage,
der wird dafür sorgen,
daß ihn diese Kohle wärmt.

Und ich sah Brot hinter Fenstern
und es war den Hungrigen verwehrt.
Den ich trage, sagt ich, der wird sorgen,
daß ihn dieses Brot da nährt.

Als ich dich in meinem Leib trug,
sprach ich leise oft in mich hinein:
"Du, den ich in meinem Leibe trage,
du mußt unaufhaltsam sein."
