Es kommt wohl einst ein Tag ins Land,
Da bist du ohn' Geleite;
Der Herbstwind flieget über'm Land,
Da schaust du leer ins Weite.

Und beide Augen gäbest du,
Könnt' ich dich dann umfangen;
Doch dann sind meine Augen zu --
Und alles längst vergangen!
