Süßer Freund, du blickest
 (Sung text for setting by C. Loewe)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT CHI DAN DUT ENG ENG FRE HEB IRI ITA NOR RUS
Süßer Freund, du blickest
  Mich verwundert an,
Kannst es nicht begreifen,
  Wie ich weinen kann;
Laß der feuchten Perlen
  Ungewohnte Zier
Freudenhell erzittern
  In den Wimpern mir.

Wie so bang mein Busen,
  Wie so wonnevoll!
Wüßt' ich nur mit Worten,
  Wie ich's sagen soll;
Komm und bring dein Antlitz
  Hier an meiner Brust,
Will in's Ohr dir flüstern
  Alle meine Lust.

Hab' ob manchen Zeichen
  Mutter schon gefragt,
Hat die gute Mutter
  Alles mir gesagt,
Hat mich unterwiesen,
  Wie, nach allem Schein,
Bald für eine Wiege
  Muß gesorget sein.

Weißt du nun die Thränen,
  Die ich weinen kann?
Sollst du nicht sie sehen,
  Du geliebter Mann;
Bleib' an meinem Herzen,
  Fühle dessen Schlag,
Daß ich fest und fester
  Nur dich drücken mag.

Hier an meinem Bette
  Hat die Wiege Raum,
Wo sie still verberge
  Meinen holden Traum;
Kommen wird der Morgen,
  Wo der Traum erwacht,
Und daraus dein Bildniß
  Mir entgegenlacht.
Modernized spelling would change "Thränen" to "Tränen" and "Bildniß" to "Bildnis".

Søde ven, du ser
 (Sung text translation for setting by C. Loewe)
 See original
Language: Danish (Dansk)  after the German (Deutsch)
Søde ven, du ser
forundret på mig.
Kan slet ikke begribe,
hvordan jeg kan græde;
lad de fugtige perlers
uvante pryd
lyst og lykkeligt skælve
i mine øjne.

Hvor ængsteligt føles mit bryst,
hvor fuldt af fryd!
Vidste jeg bare med ord,
hvordan jeg skulle sige det;
kom og skjul dit åsyn
her ved mit bryst;
jeg vil i dit øre,
hviske dig al min lyst.

Har på grund af de mange tegn
allerede moder spurgt,
min gode moder har
sagt mig alt,
har belært mig om,
hvordan der, efter alt at dømme,
snart må sørges for
en vugge.

Forstår du nu mine tårer,
at jeg kan græde?
Burde du ikke se dem,
du elskede mand?
Bliv ved mit hjerte,
føl dets slag,
sådan at jeg kan trykke dig
fastere og fastere til mig.

Her ved min seng
er der plads til vuggen,
hvor den stille skjuler
min fagre drøm;
den morgen vil komme,
hvor drømmen vågner,
og dit billede fra den
imod mig ler.
Dit billede!
