Sausewind, Brausewind,
Dort und hier!
Deine Heimat sage mir!
"Kindlein, wir fahren
Seit viel vielen Jahren
Durch die Welt,
Und möchten's erfragen,
Die Antwort erjagen,
Bei den Bergen, den Meeren,
Bei des Himmels klingenden Heeren:
Die wissen es nie.
Bist du klüger als sie,
Magst du es sagen.
-- Fort, wohlauf!
Halt uns nicht auf!
Kommen andre nach, unsre Brüder,
Da frag wieder!"
Halt an! Gemach,
Eine kleine Frist!
Sagt, wo der Liebe Heimat ist,
Ihr Anfang, ihr Ende?
"Wer's nennen könnte!
Schelmisches Kind,
Lieb' ist Wind,
Rasch und lebendig,
Ruhet nie,
Ewig ist sie,
Aber nicht immer beständig.
...
Wenn ich dein Schätzchen seh',
Will ich es grüßen.
Kindlein, ade!"

Vents que xiuleu, vents que bufeu,
aquí i allà!
Digueu-me, on és la vostra pàtria!
“Vailet, nosaltres viatgem
de fa molts anys
a través de l’ampli, ampli món,
i voldríem preguntar-ho
i aconseguir la resposta
de les muntanyes, dels mars,
de les ressonants hosts del cel:
ells no ho saben.
Si tu ets més llest que ells
ens ho podries dir.
Endavant, anem!
No ens deturis!
En vénen d’altres, germans nostres,
pregunta’ls-hi de nou!”
Atureu-vos, a pleret,
una estoneta!
Digueu-me, on és la pàtria de l’amor,
el seu principi, la seva fi?
“Qui pot saber-ho!
Petit murriet,
l’amor és com el vent,
rabent i vivaç,
no reposa mai,
és etern,
però no sempre constant.
...
Si veig la teva estimada
la saludaré.
Vailet, adéu!”
