Jäger.
 Der Tag ist gegangen
 Hier irr' ich allein,
 Wie graut mir hier außen!
 O lass mich hinein.

Schäferin.
 Hier innen ists dunkel,
 Die Hütte ist klein,
 Der Mond steht da draußen,
 Du bist nicht allein.

Jäger.
 Und willst du nicht öffnen,
 So geh' ich in Wald
 Und blase mein Hörnlein,
 Das rüstig erschallt,

 Und jage die Wolken
 Vom Himmel wohl all',
 Dann tanzen die Sterne
 Zum lustigen Schall.

Schäferin.
 Ich fühle, darfst glauben
 Indessen kein Leid,
 Ich treibe wohl träumend
 Die Schäflein zur Weid.

 Ich lausche dem Vogel,
 Er singet von Scherz,
 Ich liege bei Blumen,
 Das bringet nicht Schmerz.
Note: also titled "Nächtlicher Besuch" in his Werke volume, in the poetry section.
