Totentänzchen
 (Sung text for setting by V. Novák)
 Matches base text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der kupferrote Vollmond hing
in sternentoter Weite,
und durch die dunkeln Felder ging
verschränkt ein Paar zur Freite.
Sie war so jung, so knospenschlank,
und hatte heiße Wangen;
um ihren Leib die Arme schlang
in glühendem Verlangen
der Tod und sang:
Es irrt ein Lachen durch die Welt,
ein sorglos freches Höhnen;
es zieht ein Weinen durch die Welt,
ein Schluchzen und ein Stöhnen.
Es steigt empor und schrillt zusamm'
in wilden Dissonanzen,
wir aber wollen, schönes Kind,
ein Menuettchen tanzen ...
