Det var engang i de fjærne Tider,
der lig et vemodslort Drømmeland
af Soldis løfter sig høit og vinker
saa duftblaat i Horizontens Rand, -

da Solen skinned hver Stund paa Dagen,
og Maanen lyste i Natten ned, —
det var engang i de fjærne Tider,
at hun var Dagen og Natten med.

Jeg husker Dagenes hvide Følge,
den dybe Himmel og Byen selv
i Klynger spredt langs den blanke Flade
som døsed guldmat hver Sommerkvæld.

Jeg husker Nætternes lyse Hoitid,
naar hed jeg i Graad og Bon, -
o, stolt Gulnare af Drømmelandet,
hvor var du sælsom og bleg og skjøn.
