Ce ne sont pas les beaux lys blêmes
Qui pleurent leurs parfums éteints.

Ce n’est pas la source, ô chérie,
Qui se tait sous les vents d’hiver,
Ni les agneaux dans la prairie.
Mais sais-tu, je suis mort hier ?

Et les lys et les chrysanthèmes,
Plus compatissants que ton cœur.
Et les agneaux, les sources mêmes,
Ont compris mon sort de douleur !

Le lys à la face blafarde,
De douleur a penché son front.
Quand l’Avril reviendra, prends garde !
Toutes les fl eurs te haïront !
