Sonnenschein
(Sung text for setting by R. Pohl)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Mühlen still die Flügel drehn,
Über die Stoppeln pfeift der Wind.
Arme Hütten im Grunde stehn,
Fensterlein sind schmal und blind.

Bald da kommt ein Sonnenschein,
Blickt so lustig wie er kann.
Mühlen, Feld und Fensterlein
Fangen flugs zu lachen an.

Dürftig Herz, so bist du ganz,
Blöd und stumm bei Tag und Nacht.
Bis ein gold'ner Liebesglanz
Dich unsäglich fröhlich macht.

Note: the Pohl score has a typo in stanza 3, line 2: word 4 is "und" instead of "bei"

Composition:

Set to music by Richard Pohl (1826 - 1896), "Sonnenschein", published 1888 [ soprano and piano ], from Vier Lieder für Sopran mit Pianofortebegleitung, no. 3, Leipzig, Fritzsch

Text Authorship:

  • by Paul Heyse (1830 - 1914), no title, appears in Der Jungbrunnen: Neue Märchen von einem fahrenden Schüler, in Veilchenprinz, first published 1850
