Augenblicke gibt es, zage, 
wo so grabesstumm die Heide,
wo der Wald den Atem anhält
wie vor namenlosem Leide,

wo die Wasser klanglos schleichen,
Blumenaugen ängstlich starren,
wo mir ist, als wär das Leben all' 
versenkt in banges Harren,

und als müßt' in diese Stille
nun ein Donnerschlag erklingen
oder tief die Erd' erbeben
oder mir das Herz zerspringen.
