An die Laute
 (Sung text for setting by F. Rust)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du singst, o Nachtigall! allein
Bei schauervoller Nacht:
Dein Lied ertönt im dunkeln Hain,
Wo nur die Schwermut wacht.

Dein Lied erfrischt des Wandrers Herz,
Der tief im Wald verirrt,
Von mancher Furcht, von manchem Schmerz
Bestürmt und trostlos wird.

 ...

Nun geht er durch die dunkle Bahn
Mit sichern Schritten hin:
Sein Schutzgeist gehet still voran;
Der Nächte Schrecken fliehn.
