by André Henri Constant van Hasselt (1806 - 1874)

L'anneau brisé
Language: French (Français)
Au fond de la calme vallée,
le moulin va tournant toujours ;
Mais mon ange s'en est allée,
De la maison de mes amours.

Prends cet anneau, me disait elle,
Qu'il se brise ô mon fiancé !
Si jamais je suis infidéle ;
Hélas et l'anneau s'est brisé.

Quand j'entends le moulin bruire,
je ne sais plus ce que je veux ;
Ah ! c'est la mort que je désire,
Car tout serait silencieux.
