Cocorococ! (En la naixença d’un noi)
Language: Catalan (Català)
Available translation(s): ENG
Eulària, noble dama,
és reposant al llit;
hi ha vora seu la fosca,
la pau i un feble crit.
Les coses de la casa
amb un llenguatge mut
es parlen del misteri
i la dolçor que ha dut.
– Un altre – diu el sostre –,
que no em serà constant.
– Un altre – diu la llinda –,
que em deixarà cantant.
– Ell, que m’ignora encara,
– diu el roser flairós –
escamparà mes roses
sobre un cabell tot ros.
Dins ses humides nines,
medita el gos, content:
– No tindrà por de l’ombra,
farà fugî el dolent!
I en l’alta nit profunda
hom sent el gall cofoi
que diu a les estrelles:
– Cocorococ! És noi!

Cock‑a‑doodle‑doo! (At the birth of a boy)
Language: English  after the Catalan (Català)
Eulària, noblewoman,
is resting in bed;
around her there is darkness,
peace, and a feeble cry.
The things of the house,
with a mute language,
speak about the mystery
and the sweetness he has brought.
-- Another one – says the ceiling --,
that will not be loyal to me.
-- Another one – says the threshold --,
that will leave me singing.
-- He, that still ignores me,
-- says the fragrant rosebush –
will strew my roses
over a blond hair.
Inside his moist pupils,
ponders happily the dog,
-- He will not be afraid of the shadow,
he will chase the evil away!
And in the deep of the night
one hears the proud rooster
saying to the stars:
-- Cock-a-doodle-doo! It’s a boy!
