Vents de la mer!... Parfum des bois!... Souffles nocturnes!...
Petites fleurs dont la rosée emplit les urnes,
Grands arbres doucement par la brise agités,
Plaines, coteaux, vallons des nymphes habités,
Bonne terre et toi, nuit, dont la majesté veille,
Protégez à jamais cette enfant qui sommeille...
S’abandonnant peu à peu comme malgré lui.
Qu’elle ignore le mal par le mal expié:
Ayez pour elle, ayez un peu de ma pitié!
Et puisqu’il n’est ici nul regard que je blesse,
Puisque nul ne peut voir ma honte et ma faiblesse,
Ah! laissez-moi pleurer un peu comme un enfant.
