Juninacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Ich ging unter blühenden Linden
In den dämmernden Abend hinein . . .
Es war mir, als müßte ich finden
In der Nacht den Morgenschein. - -

Und eh' noch am Himmel entschwanden
Die bleichen Lilien der Nacht,
Da waren in rosigen Landen
Viel sehnende Augen erwacht.

Ich ging, wie von Träumen umwoben . .
Das Wunder -- ich hatt' es geschaut:
Den leuchtenden Himmel da droben
Und seine erglühende Braut!

June night
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Under blossoming linden trees I walked
Into the twilit evening . . .
It seemed to me that in the night
I must find the glow of morning. - -

And before the pale lilies of night
Vanished upon the heavens,
In rosy lands there had awakened
Many yearning eyes.

I walked, as if enveloped in dreams . .
That wondrous thing -- I had seen it:
The shining heaven above
And his blushing bride!
