Wie trunken schläft die Juninacht! Es ist wie Duft von reifem Korn Weither im Lande aufgewacht – Die Rose glüht am Heckendorn. Der Bergwald atmet; – manchmal stehen Die Winde aus den Wolken auf Und führen sehnsuchtschwüles Wehen Der Leidenschaft vom Tal herauf. Dort blitzt aus dem entschlafnen Land Ein einzig waches Fensterlein, Ich habe bald dein Haus erkannt, Von dort entloht der schwüle Schein ... Und aus beglänzten Büschen fragen Mich Nachtigallen, wo du bist, Warum in diesen trunknen Tagen Die Sehnsucht nicht die Liebe küßt. – –
