Aus dunkler Nacht ein Brunnenlied 
  Klang hell am Weg.
Die Häuser standen weiß und stumm
  Im Baumgeheg.

Die Linden wehten Duft ins Land,
Ich lehnte sacht am Brunnenrand
  Und ließ durch dunkles Sinnen
  Das blinkende Liedlein rinnen.

Und als ich wandte meinen Schritt,
Da ging's durch Nacht und Schweigen mit
  Und war auf meinen Wegen
  Wie Segen.

De la nit fosca, una cançó de la font
ressonava clara en el camí.
Les cases, blanques i silencioses,
estaven en el tancat d’arbres.

Els til·lers escampaven perfum per els camps,
poc a poc, em vaig recolzar a la vora de la font
i vaig deixar que la cançoneta lluminosa
corregués per els obscurs sentits.

I quan vaig capgirar el meu pas,
em seguia per la nit i el silenci
i era, en el meu camí,
com una benedicció.
