Auch die Sprödeste der Schönen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Auch die Sprödeste der Schönen
Widersteht nicht langem Schmerz,
Und der Liebe Freuden krönen
Endlich ein getreues Herz.

Ach, wie süß sind alle Sorgen,
Jede Mühe, wie so leicht,
Wenn man träumet: morgen, morgen
Wird ihr stolzer Sinn erweicht!

Wild, auf ungebahnten Wegen,
Bricht der Strom durch Fels und Stein;
Leisetröpfelnd dringt der Regen
Endlich auch in Marmor ein.

The reward of faithfulness
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
  Even the most aloof of beauties
Cannot withstand [the sight of] long-enduring pain,
And the joys of love shall
Finally reward a faithful heart.

  Ah, how sweet are all cares,
Every toil how easy,
When one dreams that tomorrow, tomorrow
Her proud spirit might be softened.

Wildly, upon uncharted paths,
The storm breaks through rocks and stones;
Quietly dripping the rain shall finally
Penetrate even marble.
