Vertwijfeling

Ja, bulder maar, schuimende golven,
En wentel maar rond om mij heen!
Laat ong'luk toch luid om mij kolken,
En boos zijn de wrekende zee!
 
Ik lach om de bliksems die knett'ren,
Veracht ook de toorn van de vloed;
O, mogen mij rotsen verplett'ren,
Want nooit meer wordt het goed.
 
Ik klaag niet, laat mij maar bezwijken,
In slurpende diepten vergaan!
Mijn blik zal, nee, nooit meer blij kijken,
De ster van mijn liefde zien staan.
 
Dus rol maar bergaf met gedonder,
En, stormen, kom raas op mij aan,
Splijt, rotsen, maar rotsen daar onder!
Ik zal in dit noodweer vergaan.
