Ein Flistern, Rauschen, Klingen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Ein Flistern, Rauschen, Klingen
Geht durch den Frühlingshain,
Fängt, wie mit Liebesschlingen,
Geist, Sinn und Leben ein.
Ein Chor von all den Zweigen
In süßer Harmonie,
Und doch jedwedes Neigen
In eigner Melodie.
Säng' ich es nach, was leise
Solch stilles Leben spricht,
So schien aus meiner Weise
Das ew'ge Liebeslicht.
Doch schon im leichten Wandeln
Zog das Geflister fort;
Dumpf ist der Menschen Handeln
Und todt der Sprache Wort.

A whispering, soughing, ringing
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A whispering, soughing, ringing
Passes through the springtime grove;
As with snares of love, it captures
Mind, spirit and life.
A choir from all the branches
In sweet harmony,
And yet every inclination
In its own melody.
If I were to sing back what is
Uttered by such quiet life,
From my lay would shine
The eternal light of love.
But already, lightly passing away,
The whispering vanished;
The actions of mankind are dull
And dead is the word of language.
