Gestern weint ich in den Schoß des Glückes:
Ach, mir fehlt die Sonne deines Blickes!

Laß mich, laß mich deine stolzen süßen
Goldnen Augen einmal noch genießen,

Daß ich froh die Blicke wieder wende
Auf den Tanz der Weltallsgegenstände,

Und das Glöckchen wieder höre klingen
Lieblich in den bunten Erdendingen.

Da erblickt ich in der großen Ferne
Eine Wiese voller Blumensterne,

Überrieselt von der Sonne Röte,
Bienenübersummt wie Hauch der Flöte,

Und das Glück sprach: Sieh, so wirst du liegen
Und dich an zwei traute Lippen schmiegen.

Aber einst, nach langen Sommertagen -- -- --
Und da schwieg es, wollte nichts mehr sagen.

Hélas, le soleil de ton regard me manque !

Laisse-moi, laisse-moi encore une fois
Savourer tes yeux fiers, doux et dorés,

Qu'avec joie je tourne le regard
Sur la danse des objets de l'univers,

Et que j'entende à nouveau la mélodie des clochettes
Dans les choses bariolées de la terre.

Je découvris alors dans les grands espaces
Une prairie emplie d'étoiles-fleurs,

Submergée par les flots du soleil couchant,
Par le bourdonnement des abeilles pareil au son de la flûte,

Et le bonheur dit : « Vois, tu seras couchée ainsi
Et tu te blottiras contre deux lèvres bien-aimées. »

Mais un jour, après de longs jours d'été …
Et là, il se tut, et ne voulut plus rien dire.
