possibly by Arnoul Gréban (flourished 15th century) and possibly by Simon Gréban (flourished 15th century)

Paroles de Marie à son fils
Language: French (Français)
Mon cher enfant, ma très douce portée,
Mon bien, mon cœur, mon seul avancement,
Ma tendre fleur que j'ai longtemps portée
Et engendré de mon sein proprement,
Mon doux enfant, mon vrai Dieu et mon père.

According to an epigram in Revue de Bruxelles, Volume 11, 1840, page 33, this is from Le Mystère de la Passion, so we are guessing that the authors are Arnoul and Simon Gréban.

Text Authorship:

  • possibly by Arnoul Gréban (flourished 15th century), appears in Le Mystère de la Passion, first published 1458 [author's text checked 1 time against a primary source]
  • possibly by Simon Gréban (flourished 15th century), appears in Le Mystère de la Passion, first published 1458 [author's text checked 1 time against a primary source]

Musical settings (art songs, Lieder, mélodies, (etc.), choral pieces, and other vocal works set to this text), listed by composer (not necessarily exhaustive):

  • by André Jolivet (1905 - 1974), "Paroles de Marie à son fils", 1929, published 1991 [ high voice and orchestra or piano ], from Mélodies sur des poésies anciennes, no. 3, from Quatre mélodies sur des poésies anciennes, no. 4, Éd. Gérard Billaudot [sung text not yet checked]
