Die Nacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
An silbernen Ketten hängt die Welt
Vom dunkelblauen Himmelszelt.

Wie eine Ampel silberschwer,
So schwingt sie leise hin und her.

Und aller Menschen Lust und Leid
Steigt aus der Ampel, erdbefreit.--

Ein einziger Ton nur klingt hinaus,
Als suche wer den Weg nach Haus . . .

Night
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
On silver chains the world hangs
From the dark blue canopy of heaven.

Like a heavy silver lamp
It swings quietly back and forth.

And the joy and sorrow of all people
Rises from the lamp, freed from the world. --

Only a single tone sounds forth from it
As if someone were seeking the way home . . .
