E canta il grillo
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
E canta il grillo, e canta la cicala;
La spiga è bionda, la spiga è matura;
O ragazzine, vi vestite in gala;
Che sè vestita deoro la natura.

Il fiore azzurro mettetevi in petto;
I giovinotti cantano il rispetto;
Il fiore azzurro vi ponete in core;
I giovinetti cantano l’amore.

Morbidi nidi sognano gli uccelli
Che merriggian sul pino solitario;
Mettete il fiore azzurro tra i capelli
Ora che sfoggia di frutta il pomario

Destan la falce gli ardori di giugno;
I mietitori la tengono in pugno;
La spiga bionda reclina la testa;
O ragazzine, vi vestite a festa.

The cricket sings
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
The cricket sings, the grasshopper sings;
The corn is yellow, the corn is grown;
Come on girls, dress for the party!
If you dress up, you are honouring nature.

Place a blue flower on your breast,
The young men are singing their respect;
Put a blue flower on your heart,
The young men sing of love.

The birds dream of soft nests
As they siesta on the lone pine;
Place a blue flower in your hair
Now that the orchard shows off its fruit.

The heats of June arouse the sickle,
The reapers hold it in their fist;
The yellow corn bends its head;
Come on girls, dress up for the festival!
