J'allais cueillir au bois lointain 
Des fraises douces et pourprées ; --

Étaient ses lèvres adorées. 

Près du Danube quand je vais 
Le flot m'attire et je m'arrête ; --
Que de soupirs et de regrets ! 
Ah ! ma tête, ma pauvre tête ! 

Quand je traverse le grand bois
Je me sens craintive et troublée,
Et chaque bruit dans la feuillée
Me rappelle un son de sa voix.
