Mourir cent fois et ne perdre la vie,
Desirer tout, n’avoir rien envie,
Estraindre tout et ne rien ébrasler :

Ne craindre rien, en peur le jour passer,
Estre en bon point, grevé de maladie,
Estre joyeux, remply de frenaisie,
[            ], a toute heure chasser :

Mourir de soif estant dans la fontaine,
En liberté se voir tousjours en peine,
Endurer fain, n’avoir faute de rien :

En desespoir avoir bonne esperance,
Et s’asseurer n’ayant point d’asseurance,

Wanting everything but eager for nothing,
Embracing everything and letting nothing go;

Afraid of nothing but spending the day in fear,
Being in good health but burdened with illness,
Being happy but filled with frenzy,

Dying of thirst while at the spring,
At liberty but seeming always in trouble,
Enduring hunger but lacking nothing;

In despair having good hope,
And being certain with no certainty –
