Ne feront pas changer les habitudes ou le tempérament
D'une femme tyran fière, donc il convient
au milieu de tant de peines amères
ou de les souffrir, ou de les fuir, ou de toujours se taire
Mais pourquoi se plaindre quand une inconstante
nous méprise et nous abandonne ? Ah, retenez votre rage,
calmez-vous, amant téméraire; ah, souffrez et taisez-vous ;
et si vous voulez punir la dame inconstante,
punissez-la avec des cadeaux,
châtiez-la avec des baisers.
