oh Dio che mi tocchi
di mirti e d'allori
il crine adornato
che premio è più grato
de gli ostri e de gli ori

ed ecco il primo voto appendo al Tempio
d'un nuovo e forse non creduto esempio

A un lampo sereno
che splende cotanto
è forza che belle
sien l'arie novelle
nel regno del canto

oh Dio che ripieno
di sconcia armonia
havete l'orecchio
ond'io v'apparecchio
miglior melodia

e à chi gli studi miei creder non giova
mando querela e lo disfido à prova.

Vous êtes, ô beaux yeux,
les étoiles qui
avec vos beaux rayons
dans ce premier voyage
m'avez amené à bon port.
Ô dieux, que me touchent
myrtes et laurier
pour l'orner ma chevelure
prix plus gratifiant que
la pourpre et l'or.

Et voici la première offrande apportée au temple
un nouvel et peut-être incroyable modèle.

Qu'avec un éclair lumineux
brillent donc
et magnifiquement
les nouveaux airs
dans le royaume du chant.

Ô dieux, qui avez plein
d'harmonie horrible
dans l'oreille,
je vous apporte
une meilleure mélodie.

Et à ceux qui n'aimeraient pas mes œuvres
j'envoie une plainte et leur lance un défi.
