Translation Singable translation by Frederick Corder (1852 - 1932)

Inmitten von Blüthen

When blossoms are brightest, when May's...
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When blossoms are brightest, when May's at her height,
each bosom rejoices and drinks in delight!
All Nature exults in the advent of Spring:
thro' forest and meadow the glad tidings ring.

When friendship is brightest in youth's happy day
our life is as smiling as Nature in May.
All hearts we esteem, ev'ry comrade we prize,
'Tis the brightest of worlds to the brightest of eyes.

When love's at its ripest impassioned and true
what mirrors of bliss are those bright eyes to view!
The joy of the blossoms Love greedily sips,
from heart into heart he exultantly trips.

We hail ye with rapture, O blossoms of May
although 'tis no true Spring till Love comes this way!
Though flowers and friendship to all bring delights,
'Tis Love only lifts us to Heaven's golden heights!
