Der Bahnvorstand des kleinen Orts bedünkt vom Rang sich eines Lords. Ein Vororts-, Fern- und Güterzug zu gleicher Zeit (!) – das ist genug. Er streckt die Hand vorn in die Brust und blickt mit wahrer Feldherrnlust. Er steckt den Arm bald her, bald hin: Sein Leben hat nun wirklich Sinn ... Zum Größten sprach sein Herz nun: »Komm!« Er ist ein Mensch; voilà! un homme!
