Livets Blomstervej,
Fagrest Blomst den brød!
Sorgens Toner lyde,
Kan ej Fred betyde,
Længslens Suk og Råb,
Kan det rumme Håb?

Båren, Båren sænkes i Jorden ned;
Tåren, Tåren spejler det mørke Sted.
Han som mi sted jo
Kjærlig Lykkes Ro,
Far og Mor stå ved
Da usynlig kommer
Livets store Dommer,
Lærer dem det Råb,
Som kan rumme Håb.

weicht nun, weicht nun dem, der viel stärker war.
Freund Hein achtet nicht
Blumen, die er bricht,
schönste Blüt fürwahr!
Totenglöckleins Läuten
kann nicht Trost bedeuten,
Herz, vom Kummer schwer,
birgt kein Hoffen mehr.

Sinke, sinke Sarg, nun ins dunkle Grab, 
rinne, rinne heiß, Trän um Trän herab:
Uns’res Lebens Glück
kehrt nie mehr zurück!
Unsichtbar begab
sich ans Grab hernieder
Gottes Geist - macht wieder,
dass, dem Herz, das weint,
neue Hoffnung scheint.
