A sleepwalker, I grope my way through forest and gulch, Marvellously a magical circle glows around me; Not heeding if I be courted, if I be cursed, I faithfully follow the inner bidding. How often has reality awakened me, [The reality] in which you live, and commanded me to return to it! I stood within it, sobered and shocked, And soon stole away again. Oh balmy homeland of which you deprive me, Oh dream of love from out of which you disturb me, Back to you, with a thousand wiles, my being Flees as water returns to the sea.
