Nelke
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Rote Nelke blüht im Garten,
Läßt verliebte Düfte glühen,
Will nicht schlafen, will nicht warten,
Einen Trieb nur hat die Nelke:
Rascher, heißer, wilder blühen!

Eine Flamme seh ich prangen,
Wind in ihre Röte rennen,
Und sie zittert vor Verlangen,
Einen Trieb nur hat die Flamme:
Rascher, rascher zu verbrennen!

Du in meinem Blute innen,
Liebe du, was soll dein Träumen?
Willst ja nicht in Tropfen rinnen,
Willst in Strömen, willst in Fluten
Dich vergeuden, dich verschäumen!

Carnation
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Red carnation blooms in the garden,
Lets lovelorn scents glow,
Does not wish to sleep, does not wish to wait,
The carnation has only one desire:
To bloom more quickly, more fervently, more wildly!

I see a flame standing in splendour,
[See] wind racing into its redness,
And it trembles with longing,
The flame has only one desire:
More rapidly, more rapidly to burn up!

You inside my blood,
Love, you, of what use is your dreaming?
You do not wish to flow in droplets;
In rivers, in floodwaters you wish
To expend yourself, to vanish in foam!
