Or pres d'une onde à l'escart recelée,
Libre follastre où son pied le conduit ;

As a buck, when spring destroys
Language: English  after the French (Français)
As a buck, when spring destroys
The slow-parting ice of dismal winter,
To graze better on the honeyed leaves
Will escape from the woods at Dawn:
And alone and safe, far from dogs and noise,
On a hill, or in a valley,
Or near some water hidden some way off,
Free, frolicking where his feet take him;
His freedom fears no nets or bows
Until that moment when his life is taken
By a fatal wound purpled with his blood;
Just so, I had no expectation of harm
On that day in the April of my years when her eye
Shot with one dart a thousand wounds into my flank.
